Zurich has developed a program that caters to the unique risks faced by not-for-profit providers of senior care and services.

The program features Professional Liability, General Liability, Auto, Umbrella, Property and lines of business.


  • Continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs)
  • Skilled nursing facilities (SNFs)
  • Assisted living and personal care operations
  • Independent living/senior housing operations
  • Home and community-based services for the elderly
  • Program of all-inclusive care for the elderly (PACE)

Ineligible risks:

  • Any other facilities not described in the eligible classes of business such as: sanitariums, facilities with psychopathic patients, alcohol and or drug rehabilitation, nurse registries and leasing services.
  • Any risk that has an active bankruptcy filing
  • Skilled nursing facilities out of compliance with current state regulatory survey
  • Skilled nursing and assisted living facilities without proper licenses
  • For-profit facilities

Submission requirements:

This program administrator offers a 10 percent GL/PL premium credit for participation in an online risk management course that provides continuing education credits.

Building and Personal Property

  • Broad real and personal property protection (available on a blanket basis)

  • Property of patients: $5,000 per patient/$25,000 each described premises
  • Patients' money and securities on described premises: $500 per patient/$5,000 per occurrence
  • Spoilage (food, medicines, fluids): $75,000
  • Food contamination and communicable disease: $25,000
  • Emergency vacating expense: $25,000
  • Landslide, mine subsidence, earth sinking: $25,000
  • Increased limits for ordinance or law, utilities services and backup of sewers and drains now available


Professional Liability

  • Claims-made form
  • Excludes physicians, surgeons and dentists


  • Coverage for employed physicians providing direct patient care available**
  • Healthcare liability expense reimbursement coverage for HIPAA and disciplinary proceedings ($30,000 each/$60,000 annual aggregate)
  • Increased limits available for abusive acts alleged participant defense expense coverage
  • Reduced Professional Liability rates in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida and Mississippi

General Liability

Investigating Expense*

  • Pays up to 20 percent of coverage limit, subject to $25,000 maximum

Inland Marine

  • Protection for mobile medical equipment, including breakage coverage

Excess Liability

  • Up to $10 million in additional liability coverage for catastrophic events
