Insurance provider moves up 4 places in Military Times Best for Vets: Employers 2017 list

Veterans transitioning to civilian employment have skills and experience that are highly valued in the insurance industry. Leading property and casualty insurance provider Zurich North America recognizes the value veterans can bring to a company and continues to increase its efforts to recruit veterans and create a supportive culture for them once they are on board.

For the second year in a row, Zurich’s focus on veterans has been recognized by Military Times. In fact, Zurich North America moved up four places (from 52 in 2016 to 48 this year) on the Military Times’ Best for Vets: Employers 2017 listing.

Zurich began ramping up its veterans recruiting mission in 2014. That year, the company joined the Veteran Jobs Mission, a coalition of over 200 companies collectively committed to hiring one million U.S. military veterans. Also in 2014, Zurich launched the ZurichHiresHeroes.com website to help veterans find jobs with Zurich across the country.

Internally, the company’s Veteran Engagement Team at Zurich (VETZ) has a mission to build a community for all current and former military service members and military supporters, while establishing an inclusive environment to help employees build a career, share experiences and become thought leaders among the Zurich team. The VETZ employee resource group was launched at Zurich North America’s headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois, and now has chapters in Zurich offices in Florida, New York and Colorado.

“Zurich values the leadership, training and work ethic veterans bring as a result of their military experience,” said Mike Esqueda, Talent Acquisition Specialist for Zurich North America, Co-Chair of VETZ, and a veteran. “Their skillset supports our actions to enhance our technical capabilities and build the relationships that will help us deliver value for our customers.”

Zurich’s inclusion in the Military Times’ Best for Vets: Employers 2017 ranking is the third accolade Zurich North America has received for its human resources practices and company culture in the month of May alone. Earlier this month, Zurich was named to Forbes’ Best Large Employers list for the second straight year. And on May 1, Zurich North America’s Head of Human Resources Brian Little was named Chief Human Resources Officer of the Year in the For Profit category by HRO Today magazine.

In addition, Zurich was also selected by Working Mother magazine as one of the 100 Best Companies in 2016, 2015 and 2014. Zurich has also been named one of the 2017 Top Companies for Executive Women by the National Association for Female Executives. It’s the second consecutive year Zurich has earned this honor.

The Military Times’ Best for Vets: Employers 2017 rankings evaluate companies’ culture, veteran recruiting, veteran policies, and accommodations for members of the National Guard and reserves. The rankings are the result of a meticulous, months-long process. Military Times invites companies to fill out its nearly 100-question survey, tests to ensure the accuracy of responses, carefully evaluates survey data and includes only the best companies in its published rankings.
