Dennis F. Kerrigan Jr. is Zurich North America’s general counsel and corporate secretary. He is responsible for the Corporate Law, Compliance, Government and Industry Affairs, and Regulatory Affairs departments for all North America businesses. He also serves as an adviser to the North America CEO, providing strategic advice, counsel and support for implementation of Zurich Insurance Group strategy in North America. He also served as executive sponsor of Zurich's new North America Headquarters. He was named to his current position in 2008. Prior to joining Zurich, Kerrigan was a partner in the global litigation department of an international law firm. An accomplished litigation and dispute resolution attorney, he has 20 years of trial experience in state and federal courts, including high-profile cases. He has represented financial services companies in a variety of proceedings, including arbitrations, governmental investigations, regulatory hearings and trials, in matters involving market conduct litigation, class actions, complex claims litigation, reinsurance disputes and coverage litigation. He is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics, including trial advocacy, corporate governance and commercial insurance.

External appointments

Kerrigan has taken a leadership role in several industry groups, including the American Insurance Association, the Organization for International Investment and the Institute for Legal Reform. He has been recognized by several business and legal publications in the area of insurance law and also served as editor-in-chief of the Tort & Insurance Law Journal, published by the American Bar Association. He also serves with several area charitable organizations, including Habitat for Humanity and Chicago Catholic Charities.

Educational background

Kerrigan has a law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary and a bachelor's degree from the College of the Holy Cross. He is admitted to practice law in Illinois and Connecticut.
