SCHAUMBURG, IL, January 6, 1999 -- Workers compensation customers, agents, brokers, and insureds involved with Zurich-American’s Managed Care program can access an online directory of medical providers to get immediate information about the closest hospitals, physicians and related medical services.
Called Zurich C.A.R.E. Directory Onlinesm--which stands for Comprehensive, Accurate, Reliable, and Efficient--the new directory can be accessed through Zurich-American’s Web site at www.zurichamerican.com. By going to Zurich-American’s Web site, users will view the latest list of approved providers in their geographic area, including a street map showing the provider’s address, phone number, and location.
The online directory also offers “first choice” information. In some states, workers have “first choice” of healthcare providers to treat job-related injuries or illnesses. In other states, employers are allowed to direct the injured or ill worker to a provider. Once users enter the state in which their benefits are filed, the directory tells them whether or not they have “first choice” of providers.
Tom Wiese, vice president of workers compensation in Zurich-American’s Claims division, pointed out, “This is another example of our strategy at Zurich-American to use technology to help reduce loss costs for customers and help them meet their needs.”

Directory Onlinesm is the latest tool designed to provide injured workers and their employers accessibility to network providers who are committed to appropriate medical treatment and early return to work,” added Tina Preisig, assistant vice president in Zurich Services Corporation Managed Care.
This latest in a series of new customer services was developed by Zurich Services Corporation Managed Care, along with Zurich-American’s Workers Compensation Product Management Group, and Claims Automation.
