Zurich and Marsh highlight global risks in Canada

April 15, 2019

Zurich North America’s head of risk takes the WEF 2019 Global Risks Report on a roadshow across Canada with Marsh & McLennan.

Barry Franklin, Head of Risk for Zurich North America, began a three-city tour of Canada recently to help educate Marsh & McLennan brokers and customers about some of the key findings of the World Economic Forum 2019 Global Risks Report.

At stops in Calgary on March 19 and Vancouver on March 20, Franklin was joined by Sarah Robson, CEO, Marsh Canada Limited, and Alex Wittenberg, Executive Director, Marsh & McLennan Insights at Marsh & McLennan Companies. Another stop is schedule for April 26 in Toronto.

Barry Franklin Calgary 2019Zurich and Marsh are strategic partners with the WEF in the production of the annual report, providing funding, insights and direction.

Nearly 40 brokers and customers attended Calgary event; 55 came to Vancouver to learn more about the WEF report.

The 14th edition of the report highlights the macroeconomic, geopolitical and environmental risks that present challenges to global peace, prosperity and health.

The report also includes the results of the Global Risks Perception Survey, for which hundreds of WEF stakeholders are asked to consider a list of 30 global risks and rank them in terms of likelihood and impact over the next 10 years. Extreme weather, climate change and cyber/data risks dominated the top 10 in both categories—although “weapons of mass destruction” secured the top spot in terms of impact.

For more on this topic, read Franklin’s article in the April/May/June 2019 edition of LEADERS magazine.
