Zurich Canada names new Head of Claims

Joe Fidilio, an insurance industry veteran with legal and claims experience, has been appointed as head of Claims for Zurich Canada.
Fidilio will report directly to Zurich Canada CEO Saad Mered. His first day with Zurich will be August 19 and he will be based in the Toronto office.Fidilio has nearly 20 years of experience in insurance as a practicing lawyer and claims professional. Starting as an associate at Forbes Chochla LLP, he earned litigation and trial experience that he later used at Liberty International Underwriters in ascending levels of both claims and underwriting positions, particularly in the financial lines segment. Most recently, he was head of Claims for AIG Insurance Company of Canada.
In his new role, Fidilio will lead the next phase of Zurich Canada’s Claims transformation with a focus on digitalization, innovation and simplification as the core pillars to becoming customer led.“Our opportunity to become a more customer-led business will start with Claims,” Mered said. “At the same time, Joe will ensure that we continue to enhance the technical excellence that Zurich is known for, despite the ever-increasing challenges in the legal and regulatory environments in which we operate globally.”

Fidilio holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from York University, Toronto; a Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto; and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2000. He is also a member of the Law Society of Ontario.
