Zurich protects and supports the work of our business customers, and our employees make that possible. So when you join our stellar workforce, we support and protect you, too. Competitive compensation and health benefits are just the start. Our FlexWork environment and other amenities help you direct your success.
Annual base pay is the most visible portion of total rewards. Base pay is designed to be competitive with the market based on your job responsibilities. Our philosophy is that base pay should be designed to allow us to maintain an appropriate competitive position and be internally equitable, reflecting your experience and your performance.
The Short Term Incentive Plan (STIP) is a pay-for-performance program used to recognize your contributions to short-term business results. The percentage of STIP awarded to you depends on two parameters: 1) the company’s performance on organizational financial goals, and 2) your individual performance, which is determined by your manager.
Zurich also provides variable compensation in the form of sales incentive plans, usually for those employees responsible for the direct selling of accounts. Employees are eligible for either STIP or a sales incentive plan, but not both.
Health and wellness
Because healthcare needs and priorities differ, we offer three high-deductible medical plans, all designed to be used with a tax-advantaged Health Savings Account (HSA). When you make a minimum contribution to your HSA, Zurich will make a generous contribution too.
Your annual physical exams and other preventive services are covered at 100% when you use in-network providers. You can elect to cover your eligible dependents – spouse or domestic partner and dependent children. The plan also covers prescription drugs. Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) are an additional option for eligible out-of-pocket health and dependent care expenses. We also provide other insurance coverages for you and your family:
- Dental (HMO or PPO)
As part of the company’s commitment to our people, Zurich’s wellness program, HealthFirst, provides 24/7 access to registered nurses in addition to programs to help manage chronic conditions and improve overall wellness.
Other Zurich benefits that we are proud to offer include:
- Employee assistance program
- Legal assistance
- Adoption assistance
- Commuter benefit plan
- Business travel insurance
- Child care discounts
The Zurich Savings Plan
When you enroll in our 401(k) plan, Zurich matches your contributions dollar-for-dollar up to the first 6% of your eligible base pay. You are immediately vested in your contributions as well as Zurich’s match. Administered by The Vanguard Group, the plan allows you to invest up to 50% of your eligible base pay on a pre-tax basis, up to the IRS maximum.
Retirement Account Plan
Zurich offers a pension plan, known as the Retirement Account Plan (RAP). The RAP is a cash balance pension plan, which means you earn credits based on your pay, age and service. You are 100% vested in – or own – your pension benefit after completing three years of service.
Day to day, our FlexWork environment and dress-for-your-day philosophy give you choices on how to be most effective at work. In addition, we offer a generous amount of paid time off (PTO), along with paid holidays and summer hours.
Our LEED Platinum®-certified headquarters outside Chicago reflects our belief that your work environment can enhance your productivity as well as your quality of life. Zurich’s new home (as of 2016) was designed with modern amenities:
