Mike Day is Head of Crop for Zurich North America’s Alternative Markets business unit and is based in Anoka, Minnesota, near Minneapolis. He is responsible for the overall direction and strategic planning for the Crop business unit, and for ensuring strong relationships with key stakeholders in the agriculture industry, USDA and agencies. Prior to Zurich North America’s acquisition of U.S. crop insurer Rural Community Insurance Services (RCIS) in April 2016, he was the Business Head for RCIS, a position he held since November 2009.
Day has 34 years’ experience in the crop insurance industry. He began his career as a contract loss adjuster for Crop Hail Management (CHM) in central California and later became Regional Manager for California and Arizona. He went on to become President of CHM until RCIS was established in 1994. He was named RCIS Western Regional Manager and later became the Sioux Falls Sales and Service Office Manager, covering most of the western U.S. He was promoted to National Sales Manager before accepting the position of RCIS Business Head.
Day serves as a member of the National Crop Insurance Services (NCIS) Executive Committee and the Executive Committee of the Crop Insurance & Reinsurance Bureau (CIRB). He is also the former chairman of NCIS Board of Directors. Day works closely with Zurich Government and Industry Affairs in Washington, D.C., on regulatory and legislative issues pertaining to the federally funded crop insurance program.
