Adam Hamm is Chief Compliance Officer of Zurich North America, responsible for leading the Compliance function in the United States and Canada. This includes oversight of Zurich’s compliance for multiple legal entities and senior leaders to support its businesses’ adherence to all laws and standards, promote a culture of integrity and advise the Board and CEOs of Zurich North America and Zurich Cover-More. He is also a member of Zurich’s Group Compliance Executive Committee, supporting Zurich’s global compliance efforts.
Before joining Zurich, Hamm was Chief Compliance Officer for Allianz Commercial – North America, where he led a governance and control function across the region, focusing on, among other things, compliance, ethics and regulatory change management. He also served as a Managing Director at Protiviti, advising financial services clients on risk, compliance, cybersecurity and data privacy.
Previously, Hamm served as North Dakota’s elected Insurance Commissioner for nearly a decade, overseeing the state’s insurance market and regulatory initiatives. He began his career as a violent crimes prosecutor and then as a civil litigator, representing clients in commercial and civil litigation.
External appointments
Hamm served as President of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), where he also chaired key committees, including the Executive Committee, Audit Committee, Government Relations Leadership Council, International Insurance Relations Leadership Council, Cybersecurity Task Force and Life Insurance and Annuities (A) Committee. He held leadership roles on several federal bodies, such as the United States Financial Stability Oversight Council and the Financial and Banking Information Infrastructure Committee. In addition, Hamm has been active in international regulatory collaboration, engaging with organizations like the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.
Educational background
Hamm earned his Juris Doctor degree, with distinction, from the University of North Dakota School of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University.
