Alex Wells is CEO of Zurich U.S., a role he took on in September 2026. He is a member of the Zurich Insurance Executive Committee and leads the Zurich U.S. Executive Committee.
Wells has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry across underwriting, distribution, operations and business management. He previously served as President of U.S. Middle Market, Programs, Captives, and Direct Markets for Zurich U.S., where he was responsible for driving a dedicated focus and oversight of Zurich’s investment in redefining and profitably positioning its Middle Market business.
Wells joined Zurich in 2020 from Chubb, where he was Executive Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer for Commercial Insurance. Prior to that, he was Executive Vice President and Regional Manager for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions for Commercial Insurance. Earlier he was Executive Vice President and North American Manager for Specialty Casualty and Construction. He also held a variety of other leadership and management roles within the Chubb and ACE organizations.

Educational background
Wells holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from American University in Washington, D.C.
