Cushing becomes Construction Head at Zurich NA

Known as ‘Toby,’ Cushing returns to Construction after most recently serving as Zurich’s Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer.

Kelly Kinzer, Head of Specialties at Zurich North America, is pleased to announce the appointment of Tobias “Toby” Cushing as Head of Construction, effective immediately. Cushing returns to the Construction team after serving most recently as Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer at Zurich, which is a market leader in delivering insurance products and services to businesses in construction and many other industries. 

Tobias CushingIn his new role, Cushing will be responsible for managing Zurich’s Construction portfolio and executing growth plans to achieve the company’s ambitious financial targets. He will report to Kinzer, whose Specialties business unit now includes Energy (both Property and Casualty), Marine, and Accident & Health, in addition to Construction, Surety and Financial Lines.

Cushing brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this position. Since joining Zurich in 2022 as Head of Construction Casualty, he has held several underwriting leadership roles. Prior to joining Zurich, he held senior positions at The Hartford, including Head of Construction. He earlier practiced insurance coverage law at Saxe Doernberger & Vita, P.C.

Cushing holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Houghton College, a Juris Doctor from Quinnipiac University School of Law and a Master of Insurance Law from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

He will remain based in New York City.
