“Slip and Fall” Nightmare Avoided When Zurich Travel Assist Responds
A Zurich Travel Assist (ZTA) customer was traveling on business in Switzerland when the trip took a turn for the worst. The traveler was walking to the train station when they slipped on some ice and were taken by ambulance to the nearest emergency room.
An X-ray identified a broken left leg requiring immediate surgery. The traveler’s family contacted WTP for support in payment of medical expenses as well as new flights for the return home post discharge.
WTP then stepped in to perform the following:
- Contacted the hospital to obtain a medical update and provide a second opinion to confirm the traveler required emergency surgery to have four screws secured in their leg.
- Contacted the hospital’s billing department to arrange a guarantee of payment – ensuring the traveler did not have to worry about the costs.
- Following surgery, a WTP Registered Nurse contacted the traveler to check on their progress and then transferred the call to the traveler’s spouse so they could share their updates.
- During the admission, WTP remained in regular contact with both the provider and traveler to ensure the highest level of care and to make arrangements for repatriation back to the US.
- As part of the recovery, the traveler required intense physiotherapy to assist in walking again. After a week in hospital, the traveler was declared safe to fly.
- WTP arranged for two business class seats for the man and an accompanying colleague who would be able to assist him on the flight.
- WTP also organized ground transportation to and from the airport, as well as airport assistance so their travel could be as stress-free as possible.
