Zurich marks 50th anniversary of Zurich Multinational at RIMS event

Leaders will highlight award-winning innovation in multinational insurance and more at 2025 risk conference in Chicago, Zurich North America’s hometown.

In 1975, Zurich became one of the first insurance providers to offer global programs. Businesses ever since have counted on Zurich to help them navigate risks across borders. The 50th anniversary of Zurich Multinational is a milestone that Zurich leaders will celebrate at RIMS RISKWORLD, the annual conference of risk and insurance professionals and business leaders May 4-7 in Chicago.

Zurich’s Booth No. 1013 at McCormick Place will spotlight Zurich Multinational’s anniversary and other Zurich news and updates. Zurich North America senior executives planning to attend include CEO Kristof Terryn, Chief Claims Officer Keith Daly, Head of Customer & Distribution Management John Diaz, Head of Specialties Kelly Kinzer and Head of U.S. National Accounts Paul Lavelle. Aroo Sivasubramaniam, Head of Zurich Resilience Solutions for North America, also will attend.

From the Zurich global leadership team, attendees include Vinicio Cellerini, Global Head of Customer & Distribution; Group Chief Claims Officer Tom Thornberry, Global Head of Multinational Rosa Pan and Group Head of Captives Adriana Scherzinger, who is leading an education session (details below).

They and many other Zurich North America leaders will meet with risk managers and brokers throughout the conference, exchanging insights and observations on risk trends and solutions to meet emerging and evolving needs.

“We look forward to meeting with customers and brokers in Chicago, where Zurich first established our U.S. presence in 1912,” Terryn said. “We’ve been helping our customers navigate risks and uncertainty for even longer globally, over 150 years. This longevity is possible only by listening and collaborating to address evolving needs. RIMS RISKWORLD presents an opportunity like no other to do so.”

In addition to such meetings, Zurich leaders will speak in three educational sessions:

  • “Train Like You Fight: Building cyber resilience amidst an ever-shifting cyber landscape” on May 5, from 2:30 p.m.-2:50 p.m., will feature the insights of Riccardo Reati, Head of SpearTip for Zurich Resilience Solutions. The session will be on the Innovation Stage.
  • “The new administration and insurance: Navigating the first 100 days and beyond” on May 6, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., will feature Deirdre Manna, Head of Government & Regulatory Relations for Zurich North America, speaking alongside Daniel Serota, Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Affairs for Aon, and Andrew Levy, Chief Corporate and Government Affairs Officer for Accenture. The session will be in Room 186ABC.
  • “A hard market isn’t the only reason to put property risks in a captive” on May 6, from 2:45-3:45 p.m., will be moderated by Scherzinger. Joining her as panelists are Ian Ascher, Executive Director of Global Risk Management for JLL; Sandy Bigglestone, Deputy Commissioner of Captive Insurance for the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation; and Michael Serricchio, Marsh Captive Solutions Managing Director and Regional Leader for U.S. and Canada. The session will be in Room 175ABC.

Zurich Multinational

Global Head of Multinational Rosa Pan and U.S. Head of Multinational Underwriting Cody Griffin, whose new role was recently announced, will share how they and their teams are committed to keep raising the bar for global solutions and service.

A little over a week before the RIMS conference, Zurich Multinational was awarded the 2025 Axco Global Insurance Award for Best Training Initiative in Global Insurance. The award is the eighth industry honor for Zurich Multinational since 2022.

“These significant recognitions highlight the team’s continuous dedication to educating and empowering the market, reinforcing our strong position as respected industry leaders,” Pan said.

The recent Axco award was for a continuing education course Zurich North America’s Multinational team designed. Titled “Writing Business into the U.S.,” the course provides brokers and risk managers with critical training regarding insurance placement for overseas companies starting or expanding operations in the U.S., where navigating various state laws can be complex.

In a changing world, Zurich’s broad global capabilities, deep experience and innovative approaches are as valuable as ever. Here’s a look at Zurich Multinational by the numbers:

  • 7,500+ customers with 56,000 multinational policies worldwide
  • 3,000+ dedicated multinational experts who help customers navigate the unique risks, coverage needs, regulations and laws in places where they do business.
  • 200+ territories covered – one of the largest and most comprehensive networks in the industry.

Zurich Multinational is focusing on enhancing digital capabilities. The My Zurich digital platform recently added on-demand capabilities for brokers and customers to generate Certificates of Insurance (COIs) more quickly than in the past. Businesses often need to secure proof of insurance for critical operations. Obtaining such certificates from insurance providers has traditionally taken days or even weeks, multiple phone calls and emails, complicated by time zone differences. Using the COI capability in My Zurich, certificates often can be generated in minutes.

Other digital capabilities include the Exporter Solutions digital platform, which is designed for middle market companies that have incidental or infrequent international exposures and needs, such as coverage for an executive traveling overseas for a meeting. The Exporter Solutions digital platform allows Zurich-appointed distributors to prepare a submission, get a quote, view the proposal and bind the policy in as little as 15 minutes.
